February 2025

The rhythm of life at the Generalate continues with its familiar ebb and flow, marked by reunions and departures. On January 26th, Sisters Angelique Dikete and Mary Joseph Valiyankal returned from their mission in Mali, bringing gifts of fruit, peanuts, coconuts, tapioca, smoked fish... Their arrival sparked vibrant conversations about the country’s beauty, hospitality, and generosity. The community deeply appreciates our sisters and fully enjoys the gifts from Mali.

January concluded with the joyful homecoming of Sister Suman Anima Toppo on the 30th, following her mission in the Philippines. Her return was a testament to the deep connections she experienced with our sisters at INC (International Community) Legazpi and the novitiate community at IAN (International Asian Novitiate) Tagaytay. The community expresses heartfelt gratitude for the homemade and organic gifts we received, reflecting the generosity and love from our sisters in the Philippines.

February will be notable for the return of our Superior General, Sister Lucy Jacob, on the 16th, following her canonical visit to Sri Lanka. Her presence will undoubtedly bring renewed guidance and inspiration to our community. Shortly after, on the 22nd, we also look forward to welcoming back Sister Rosily Mathew after her restful period at home. We extend our heartfelt wishes for their safe and comfortable journeys.

The Generalate community observed Sri Lanka’s Independence Day on February 4th with a devout prayer for the nation’s prosperity and well-being. Sister Matilda Wijeratne graced the occasion by preparing traditional Sri Lankan delicacies, fostering a shared sense of cultural appreciation.

The community was further enriched by the friendly visit of two Indian diocesan priests, both with the name Alvin, who shared insightful narratives of their academic pursuits, challenges encountered, and moments of profound joy, nurturing a strengthened bond of solidarity and fraternity.

Sister Matilda embarked on her linguistic journey last month at home, beginning French classes with Sisters Beatrice Tshilemba and Marie Louise. From 10 February she goes to a language school in Brussels. Her dedication and assiduous efforts are bearing fruit, as evidenced by her steady progress in the new language.

The Generalate community is currently experiencing a tangible manifestation of God’s creative power. Twenty Indian Runner duck eggs have been discovered in the pool, with the daily count steadily increasing, providing a delightful glimpse into the wonders of creation.

Papal Intention for February 2025: For Vocation to Priesthood and Religious Life: Let us implore that the ecclesial community fervently embrace the aspirations and uncertainties of those young individuals who perceive a calling to serve Christ’s mission through priesthood and religious life.
