Saturday, 21 June 2025 was a day of great joy for all the sisters of the Saint Bernard Province in the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as for all the parishioners of the Sainte-Marie parish in Kimpese.
At 9:30 a.m., His Excellency Monsignor Giraud PINDI MWANZA MAYALA, surrounded by some fifteen priests from various parishes of the diocese of Matadi and the surrounding dioceses (Boma and Kisantu), presided over the Eucharistic celebration on the occasion of three events:
After the entrance procession, the bishop greeted the assembly and blessed the new provincial team, officially presenting them to the people of God and wishing them a fruitful mandate.
In his homily based on 2 Cor 12:1-10 and Mt 6:24-26, Bishop Pindi emphasized on service and grace. He reminded the sisters, saying that they are set apart for the service of God. In that calling, they will face trials of all kinds, which are part of the life of those who follow Christ. He urged them not to be discouraged or afraid, but to turn to the Lord who will grant them his grace, for without Him they can do nothing.
Commenting on the Gospel, he encouraged them not to worry about food, drink or clothing, but to devout themselves wholeheartedly to their mission, for those who have God lack nothing. He reminded them that true service cares for God’s Word, rather than material goods, quoting Jesus’ word: " No one can serve two masters" (Mt 4: 26). He invited them to recommit themselves to love and Charity in their hearts and living out the charism of the congregation towards the men and women of our time. He then invoked the Holy Spirit to come to their aid.
After the beautifully animated Mass with Hymns appropriate for the occasion, the assembly gathered in the courtyard of the Lamba High School for a festive meal. The Sisters of Charity, consecrated members of other religious institutes, some members of the families of the newly professed and jubilee sisters, our collaborators from the fields of education, health, social action and ‘the other Christs’ were present.
Together we gave thanks to God for his presence and his blessings.
A heartfelt thanks goes to all the participants for their material and moral support and for their active participation.
Sister Hélène Doteane
