After a relaxing day out, the second phase of the EGC commenced on 12th August with a recap and review of the first phase. This was followed by a presentation on the theme ‘Interculturality and Internationality,’ which invited the members to engage in meaningful reflection and purposeful sharing, drawing on the insights and learning gained during the first phase of the EGC.
The second session was on ‘Re-orientation of Institutional Services ’, focusing on identifying practical ways to advance the directives from previous EGCs and GCs related to re-orientation.
On the 13th, the theme ‘Solidarity within the Congregation’ was taken up for reflection and dialogue. This was followed by a presentation on ‘Financial Administration,’ which offered a thoughtful perspective on how we utilize the gifts generously entrusted to us by God. It emphasized the guiding principles found in our Constitutions and the Social Teachings of the Church, reminding us that we are stewards, not owners, of the wealth we manage.
The session ‘Collaboration with the laity’ in building a synodal Church, as emphasized by Pope Francis, highlighted the growing need to strengthen lay involvement in our life and mission, especially in today’s context.
On 14th August, the session on ‘Digital Communication’ stressed its growing significance in both our daily life and mission. The members contributed valuable insights, clarifying the effective use of media in today’s world, acknowledging the challenges it presents, especially when lacking the necessary skills to navigate it responsibly.
The upcoming celebration of the ‘Quasquicentennial’, the 225th Anniversary of the Congregation, on 4th November 2028, was another topic of discussion, which offered a forward-looking perspective on how to meaningfully commemorate this milestone in the spirit of gratitude and renewal.
August 15th was marked by a deeply moving and spiritually rich celebration at the Mother House in Terhaegen. Members of the EGC, joined by many SCJMs from across Europe, came together to honour two profoundly significant occasions: the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the elevation of our beloved Founder, Peter Joseph Triest, as Venerable in the Universal Church. The Church’s recognition of his heroic virtue added a sacred depth to the day’s festivities, filling hearts with gratitude and renewed inspiration.
The Eucharistic celebration, prepared with deep reverence, brought our community together in thanksgiving and prayer. It was a sacred moment of unity, where hearts were lifted in gratitude for the life and legacy of our Venerable Founder, and the grace of Mary’s Assumption.
From the festive meal to visits to the Archives and the Foundation House in Lovendegem, every moment enriched our connection to Peter Joseph Triest’s enduring legacy. Standing at his tomb in quiet reverence, we honoured the vision he lived and lovingly passed on. The day’s journey concluded with the gracious hospitality of the Canon Triest Community of Lovendegem before the participants returned to Domain Menas at 7.00 PM.
From the early morning of the 16th, the sisters started their return journeys to various destinations, bearing with them the insights they had received, awakened hearts within, and the profound joy of having shared so deeply the spirit of Cor Unum Anima Una throughout the EGC 2025.
You will now have the opportunity to listen to the first-hand experience of EGC25 from your own representative at this event.
